Understanding What You Need To Do Before Sclerotherapy Treatment

If you have spider or varicose veins that you want to have treated, then you do have a few options available to you. One of the more popular ones involves the injection of a fluid into the veins to collapse them. This is called sclerotherapy, and it is a fairly pain free spider vein treatment. However, there are a few things that you are going to want to do before your treatment sessions. Keep reading to learn about them.

Do Not Take NSAIDs

Sclerotherapy is an outpatient procedure that is not considered invasive. For this reason, there are few risks to the treatment and you will be able to go home immediately afterward. However, your physician may ask you to do a few things before you get to your appointment. These include stopping medications that can cause bleeding issues. NSAID pain relievers should be stopped for a few days and you should also not take any anticoagulants or blood thinners. Even aspirin should be avoided for a few days. Make sure that you have permission from your general physician as well as your vein treatment specialist before stopping any medications.

You should also not do anything that would irritate the skin. So, do not shave for several days and make sure that you use a gentle soap while bathing. It is often wise to stop using lotions and perfumes too.

And, you should let your doctor know of any and all allergies before your sclerotherapy treatment begins. Some people are allergic to the agents used for the injections, so it is best to ensure that no reaction is likely to occur regarding the solution.

Buy Compression Stockings

You will need to place some pressure on your legs after the sclerotherapy treatment is over. This helps to reduce inflammation and bruising issues and it minimizes clotting concerns as well.

If you have never worn compression stockings, then you may need to get used to them. So, buy them well before your appointment and wear them around the house for a while. Your physician will be able to tell you the type of compression that is needed so it is easier to choose the best type of stockings for your situation.

If you do not like the stockings, then you do have the option of picking compression socks. These socks do come in knee and thigh-high options and often provide the same level of compression as the stockings do.

If you want to know more about sclerotherapy and the types of things you need to do before your treatment, speak with a spider vein specialist.

About Me

Improving My Appearance

For years I lived with a nose that I was embarrassed about. I had been involved in a car accident when I was a child, and it left my nose hopelessly mangled. It was awful to look at, but I didn't think that there was much I could do about it. Fortunately, after I got a new job, I realized that I finally had the budget for plastic surgery. I found an incredible cosmetic surgeon in my area, and they were able to operate on my nose. When I saw my new nose for the first time, I burst into tears. I felt like I looked like a normal person again, and it was such a relief. This blog is all about using cosmetic procedures to restore your appearance.
